30 global opportunities that are actually open right now
funded summits, free accommodation, paid seasonal work, language immersion, fellowships, volunteering, residencies (all nationalities. ages 18–35)
I'd like to tell you about a category of opportunity that most people find out about by accident, through one person who also found it by accident, usually two weeks after the deadline has closed. Today I will be the person who connects you to an opportunity that can change your life :D
The list includes 30 opportunities across the following categories: funded summits, work exchanges, language programs, volunteering, cultural exchanges, and platforms that offer free accommodation in exchange for a few hours of work per day. I have organized them by urgency because that is the only thing that actually matters when you are reading a list like this.
Before I get into it, I want to be honest about the difference between things on this list, because it matters. Some of what I’m listing is genuinely prestigious and long-established — the World Bank, One Young World, Erasmus+, AIESEC — organizations with decades of track record and no application fees. Others are newer, smaller organizations that run real events but charge a $15–18 processing fee to apply for funded seats, which is unusual for the most competitive programs and worth knowing before you get excited about something. I have flagged this clearly throughout. Cross-reference anything that feels off on r/volunteersabroad before paying anything.
Deadlines confirmed as of May 30, 2026.

🌍 World Bank Youth Summit 2026 — virtual
Event: June 11–12, 2026 (Washington, D.C. + global virtual). Deadline: June 7, 2026 — 8 days from now. Cost: free. zero.
The World Bank’s largest annual youth event, now in its 13th edition, bringing together people from 170+ countries aged 18–35. This year’s theme is FutureWorks: Designing Jobs for the Digital Age, with a focus on education, entrepreneurship, and agriculture. The in-person Washington track is closed but the virtual participation application is still open, and this one costs nothing. No application fee, no IELTS, no travel required. Just a well-written application and an afternoon on a screen with a genuinely impressive room of people from around the world talking about something that actually matters.
The barrier to this is so low it is almost offensive that more people do not know about it. If you are interested in international development, policy, economics, or just want the kind of exposure that comes from being in a structured global conversation on a topic that matters — there is no reason not to apply.

🌿 One Young World Summit 2026 — ICMM Young Leaders Scholarship
Event: November 3–6, Cape Town, South Africa Deadline: June 7, 2026 — 8 days from now Cost: free to apply. fully funded if selected.
One Young World is the closest thing to a genuinely prestigious fully funded global youth summit that exists — 2,200+ delegates from 190+ countries, heads of state, and a track record that means an OYW scholarship on your CV actually registers with people in serious institutions. This specific scholarship is through ICMM (the International Council on Mining and Metals) and targets young leaders working on biodiversity conservation, decarbonization, responsible natural resources, or sustainability-related social impact. It covers return airfare, accommodation, meals, and full summit access, plus an exclusive dialogue with the ICMM CEO on the sidelines.
The June 7 deadline is real and close, and this is one of the most legitimate opportunities on this list.

🤍 One Young World Summit 2026 — Pernod Ricard Scholarship
Event: November 3–6, Cape Town, South Africa Deadline: July 14, 2026 Cost: free to apply. fully funded if selected.
Same summit as above, different partner and different focus. The Pernod Ricard scholarship targets people working on safer social spaces, alcohol harm reduction, or community inclusion — which sounds narrow but is genuinely broad in practice, covering bartenders, public health workers, community organizers, researchers, anyone working on how people gather and connect more safely. Full funding covers international flights, accommodation, meals, and summit access, plus the One Young World ambassador network.
Worth looking at the full OYW scholarship directory too — new partner scholarships open through summer across different sectors, countries, and areas of focus, and there is more in there than most people realize.

🇹🇭 FutureMinds Summit Thailand 2026 — Bangkok
Event: July 16–19, 2026 Deadline: June 16, 2026 Cost: free to apply. fully funded if selected.
Fully funded four-day summit in Bangkok organized by the Global Youth Network, focused on four UN SDGs — education, gender equality, innovation, and climate. The scholarship covers airfare, visa costs, accommodation, meals, and a speaking opportunity. The application is a 250–300 word personal statement on your motivation, no language certificates required, open to students, graduates, young professionals, and everyone in between.
Worth applying for: the format (SDG-focused, practical, international) is exactly the kind of structured immersive experience that produces the community effect I keep writing about. You show up with a purpose, everyone else did too, and something real tends to happen from there.

🌐 ASEF Young Leaders Summit (ASEFYLS) Capacity Training 2026
Program: June–November 2026 (online phases + in-person summit in Tromsø, Norway, August 23–29) Deadline: check official site — applications open now Cost: fully funded for selected participants
A youth leadership program run by the Asia-Europe Foundation that empowers young people from Asia and Europe to develop leadership skills, explore future-thinking strategies, and drive real-world impact. The program combines online phases from June onward (approximately four hours per week) with an in-person summit in Arctic Norway in August. Forty participants are selected for the in-person component based on engagement during the online phases. The whole thing is fully funded.
This one is a genuine find because it is not just a conference — it is a structured multi-month program with an in-person component in one of the most genuinely unusual places a program could take you. The Arctic as a case study for anticipatory leadership is legitimately interesting.
